Hong Kong Island: Temples and Dim Sum

Elizabeth

Quote of the Day

"Give me sleep or give me death"
                                           - Kelby Weden

Day four here in Hong Kong and boy was it cloudy yesterday! After the night parade we all passed out so that means we didn't eat dinner, so instead we settled for a big breakfast, which was fine by me! We had breakfast at our hotel again. Afterwards we hopped on the ferry and headed to Hong Kong Island.

Our first stop was at the Man Mo temple where we were able to participate by placing three sticks of incense in the temple. It was quite beautiful inside with all the carvings and gold inlay. However since almost everyone had lit incense we had to be careful not to light ourselves on fire. The gods must have heard us because only moments later we would encounter a Tibetan Mastif, Kelby's number one goal of the trip, chilling with its owner at a nearby cafe.

After that we headed towards to Victoria Peak Tram to discover the wait was two hours to get on. We quickly vetoed the idea and instead set out to explore the streets of the island and look for lunch. In the end we decided on this small burger joint which was actually quite good and appeased our hunger. After that we took the twenty six bus over to Causeway Bay (Shout out to Eugene for coming through with the recomendations) where we explored the shops. The one shop we spent a lot of time in was this Chinese New Year decoration shop where some of us got gifts for our family and friends. By that time we were exhausted and headed back to the hotel around 5. At first we only planned on resting for an hour or so but Iona, Kelby and I ended up passing out. We then decided to call it a day because we were all too tired to go to the Night Market.

In the end that was probably the best course of action because we were able to get up bright and early the next day to go hike The Dragons Back, a beautiful four mile trek on Hong Kong Island, which we did after having congee for breakfast. I am so glad we did this because it was gorgeous. The views were unbeatable and the weather was perfect if not alittle windy. After that we took the train (side note: Hong Kong has great public transportation) headed over to a resturant called Ding Dim 1968 where we got some Dim Sum (finally). We had amazing dishes to choose from barbecued pork buns to dumplings. From there we headed over to the ferry to leave the island for the last time.

And now we are back at the hotel and the three of us decided to make use of our hotels swimming pool before going to the Temple Night Market.

Over and out!
